Introduction of ICC Champion Trophy
The ICC Champions trophy is an event of Global status for one day International cricket game. The international cricket Council has been Responsible for organizing and managing the ICC Champions Trophy events throughout the years since its start in 1998 as ICC Knock Out Tournament. This International one day Cricket tournament has been Entertaining Cricket fans nearly every two years.
However, the exact number of teams playing this international event has been selected based on different criteria over the years. Genuinely all members of ICC played the event but in year 2009, the total number of teams taking part in this mega event have been reduced to eight. In the year 2013, the ICC declared that the event will now-on swapped to ICC World Test Championship.
Nonetheless the decision was reversed to ICC Champion Trophy to take place in January 2014.
Now, the 8th edition of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is planned to be Held in England and wales from 1st June 2017 to 18th June 2017. This will be the eighth version of the competition.
ICC Champions Trophy Format
The eight highest teams according to their rankings as on 30th September 2015 have qualified for the mega Event of the cricket. These eight teams are divided in to two groups. Each group will be consisted of four teams. Bangladesh Swapped West indies and joined the tournament first time ever since 2006 after getting test status, on the other hand West indies as major test team lost their position in the trophy. Now the eight top teams who made up in to the tournament are Australia, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Sir Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan with England being the host of the event.
It has been announced by the ICC that eighth ICC Champion trophy will be held on three venues. Oval in London that has the capacity to support 26 thousand cricket viewers, Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham with cricket fans capacity of 23 thousand and five hundred and Sophia gardens in Cardiff with the least cricket fan supporting capacity of the three.
Bangladesh that made it up hardly in the top eight teams with highest rankings for the tournament has been placed in group A with three other great test playing nations of New Zealand, Australia and England. The intense match between the two old competitors will be an adventurous match of the tournament to watch. The Group B for the tournament consists of Siri Lanka, South Africa, Pakistan and India being the two fierce and aggressive opponents.
The First match of the ICC Champions trophy will be played between the Host team England and Bangladesh at The Oval London on 1st June 2017 at 10:30 GMT.
The second match of the tournament will be played between the two neighbor countries of Australia and New Zealand at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 2nd June 2017 10:30 GMT. The third match will be played between Siri Lanka and South Africa from group B at The Oval London on 3rd June 2017 10:30 GMT.
The fourth but not the least, the most waited match of the tournament will be played between two aggressive and fierce competitors India and Pakistan at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 4th June 2017 10:30 GMT.
The fifth match will be played between Bengal tigers and Australian kangaroos at The Oval London on 5th June 2017 13:30 GMT (D/N). The sixth match will be played between England and New Zealand at Sophia gardens on 6th June 2017 10:30 GM.
The seventh match will be played between Pakistan and South Africa at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 7th June 2017 13:30 GMT (D/N).
The eighth match will be played between India and Siri Lanka at The Oval London on 8th June 2017 10:30 GMT
The ninth and tenth match of the tournament will be played between opponents from group A , New Zealand Vs Bangladesh at Sophia gardens and England Vs Australia at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 9th and 10th of June 2017 respectively at the same time 10:30GMT.
The eleventh and twelfth match of the tournament will be played between opponents from group B , India Vs South Africa at The Oval London and Siri Lanka Vs Pakistan at Sophia gardens Cardiff on 11th and 12th of June 2017 respectively at the same time 10:30GMT.
1st semi Final will take place at Sophia Gardens Cardiff on 14th of June 2017 10:30 GMT .it will be played by Top team from group A and Second Highest team from group B . 2nd semi Final will take place at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 15th of June 2017 10:30 GMT .it will be played by Top team from group B and Second Highest team from group A .
The Fifteenth and the Final Match of this nearly three weeks long event will be played between the two finalists from Semi Finals at the historical ground of The Oval in London on 18th of June 2017 10:30 GMT.
ICC Champion Trophy's History
1st two editions of ICC Champions Trophy were played as ICC Knockout Trophy in years 1998 and 2000 and hosted by Bangladesh and Kenya .the Final of 1st ICC Knockout trophy was played at Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka between South Africa and West indies with South Africa being the first ever nation to win the Tournament and West indies as runner-up’s.
2nd Edition of ICC Knock-Out trophy was held Gymkhana Club Ground, Nairobi, Kenya and it was played between New Zealand and India. New Zealand won the final by 4 wickets. Since ICC Knockout Trophy was replaced the ICC champion trophy was hosted by Siri Lanka in year 2002.The final was played at R. Prema dasa Stadium, Colombo between India and Siri Lanka ..The match could not conclude result So Siri Lanka and India were both declared as co-champions.
4th Edition of the ICC Champions Trophy was hosted by England in year 2004.The final match of this mega cricket tournament was played at The Oval, London between West Indies and England. West Indies won the trophy by 2 wickets.
5th edition of the ICC Champions Trophy was hosted by India in year 2006. The final match of his mega event was played at Brabourne Stadium between Australia and West Indies .Australia won the match by 8 wickets through D/L method.
6th edition of the ICC Champions trophy was hosted by South Africa after three years in year 2009. The final match of this tournament was played at SuperSport Park, Centurion between Australia and New Zealand. Australia won this final match consecutively by 6 wickets.
7th edition of ICC Champions Trophy was hosted by England & Wales after four years in year 2013. The final match of this tournament was played at Edgbaston; Birmingham between India and England. India won the final match by 5 runs.
